Ghanaian teenage movie star Abraham
Attah has been hosted by vice president Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur at the
Flagstaff House in Accra.
The
14-year-old international star returned home from the United States after
presenting an award at the 2016 Oscars and also winning ‘Best Male Lead’ at the
2016 Independent Spirit Awards last weekend.
Attah who has
been in the news all week for his achievement touched down at the Kotoka
International Airport in the morning and was met on arrival by a team of MK
Casting led by his manager Mawuko Kuadzi, members of the press and a large
number fans who stormed the area to see the ‘Beasts of No Nation’ star.
Attah who shot
to fame with his lead role of Agu, a child soldier in his debut movie, was
driven to the Flagstaff House where he had a chat with the vice president.
H.E Amissah-Arthur congratulated Abraham Attah “for
promoting Ghana and for being a fine ambassador for our country. ”
Abraham Attah
has won two other major awards including the Marcello Mastroianni Award
for Best Young Actor at Venice Film Festival 2015 and ‘Rising Star Award’ at
the Black Film Critics Circle (BFCC).
The award scheme called Attah’s role as “one of the
strongest and most phenomenal we have ever seen” and added that he had “a very
bright future ahead of him”.
Based on the
2005 novel of the same title by Uzodinma Iweala, the movie was shot in Ghana
and also stars Ama K. Abebrese, Fred Amugi and Grace Nortey.
It was
directed by Emmy Award-winning Cary Fukunaga, and the first fictional feature
produced and distributed by Streaming Service Netflix.
