Gospel musician Wegeiwor who recently released video to
her latest single ‘Alijanda’ has shared her experience and observations since
emerging onto the gospel scene.
In an interview with www.georgebritton.com the gospel vocalist opened up about several topics including what she thinks as a gospel artiste.
Detailing her experience, the ‘’Alijanda’’ singer revealed though she hasn’t been around for long her encounter with some fellow gospel artistes comes as a surprise.
‘’As gospel artistes spreading the word of God through music you would expect certain attitudes especially walking in the path of the maker. Unfortunately, the few I have met have been disappointing you can’t even stand with them for five minutes. I think we need to take a critical look at how we as gospel artistes portray ourselves’’, she stated.
According to her gospel artistes need to stick to one ethic, ‘practice what you preach’ and not the other way round. She further added, ‘’there are some that are genuine, you can see they really in it to solely spread the gospel’’.
Wegeiwor also talked about the music industry, to her before we can call it an industry there has to be working structures. ‘’It is unfortunate but we lack structures, as artistes when you have issues it is difficult to find a solution cos the institutions don’t really work. Our work is undermined especially as gospel musician’s people expect you to fit in and do things like secular acts’’.
Aside music, the powerful singer also runs an NGO called ‘Exglo’, explaining the concept behind it Wegeiwor revealed, what Exglo does is to basically extend the love of God to the less privileged.
The project currently targets the upper belt of Ghana especially those in Upper East, Upper West, Northern region, the Central and the likes since these are the poorest areas.
‘’What we do is visit schools in these deprived areas; we give them learning materials and the necessary logistics.
The foundation also helps women with funds to finance their petty trades and little businesses. At the moment am running a project to supply shear butter making machines to these areas, if the women are able to make money then they will be able to take care of the children’’.
She hinted this is to teach them how to fish so they can be bread winners for their families than always supplying them with materials.
Quoting her philosophy, she stated ‘’If you tell somebody God loves you, be able to demonstrate it. God didn’t just say he loves man; he gave his son to die. Love is action, love shouldn’t just be a word’’, she concluded.
The gospel singer emerged onto the music scene in 2012 with her debut album ‘’Oh Jesus’’. She will be going on a tertiary gospel awareness tour soon as she looks forward to thoroughly spreading the word of God through music.
